H.E.L.P. Director Addresses National Conference
Elder law attorney Ed Long, executive director of H.E.L.P., recently addressed the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) annual symposium held in Cleveland, Ohio. Several hundred attorneys from across the country attended the conference.
Building on his work on the bioethics committees of both Little Company of Mary Hospital and Torrance Memorial Medical Center, Long shared his experiences and encouraged audience members to serve their own communities by volunteering for their local bioethics committees.
"Bioethics committees, found in hospitals and other care institutions," Long noted, "are crucial in helping individuals, families and medical staff work together to make what can be very difficult decisions about medical treatment."
Formed in 1987, NAELA is a professional association of attorneys dedicated to improving the quality of legal services provided to elders and their families, as well as to persons of all ages with disabilities. NAELA currently has more than 5,000 members across the United States, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom.
